So when is a nut not a nut?

Nuts or seeds. When is a nut not a nut?
Nuts or seeds and is there really a difference?

Surprise! What most of us refer to as ‘nuts’ aren’t nuts at all.

Of course, it’s no secret that the peanut is an imposter. It’s nothing more than a humble legume getting stuck in our teeth and throats and making us some of us itchy – or worse – since who knows when.

And you probably realised long ago that coconuts certainly aren’t nuts either.

But what about almonds, cashews, pecans, pistachios, macadamias and walnuts?

Sorry to disappoint but they’re not nuts either — they’re drupe seeds.

So next time you pass around that bowl of mixed nuts, you can now share this interesting party fact!

Who knew?!

What do you think?
